TWDCC Dance Program
Performing Arts Education
A center for professional dance education, Tannery World Dance & Cultural Center(TWDCC) provides dance education to dedicated and talented students, linking them to accomplished teaching artists. Students learn to be citizens of the studio and the world through programming that encourages discipline, cultural awareness, and artistic credence. Built into our programming, SCOPEDance(Santa Cruz Outreach Program and Enrichment Dance) initiates dance outreach through Santa Cruz County schools. SCOPEDance tracks under-served students from classrooms to professional dance instruction through sponsorship from generous individuals and businesses in the Santa Cruz and Bay Area community.
TWDCC’s Pre-Professional Dance Program
The TWDCC is pleased to launch its new pre-professional dance program for dancers ages 8 – 16yrs. (boys and girls). This program is designed for young people to receive dance training and experience in a professional atmosphere from highly skilled instructors, learn repertoire and choreography, and perform. Students will be immersed in a strong modern based technique with additional dance study including: ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, and world dance forms.
Upon acceptance into the pre-professional program, students and parents are asked to sign a contract to encourage commitment and dedication to their dance studies. No more than 3 excused absences, and 1 unexcused absence allowed per semester. Students will be expected to learn choreography, perform, and maintain appropriate dress and hair for classes.
(Santa Cruz Outreach Program & Enrichment)Dance
We believe that the arts, and specifically dance, provide an avenue for youth to experience discipline, confidence, and growth within themselves. Through SCOPEDance, our goal is to work with other cultural and artistic organizations that support at-risk and under represented youth in Santa Cruz county. Our outreach program will bring dance to as many children county-wide as possible, while also providing the opportunity to study the dance arts on full scholarship if they show interest, talent, and dedication.
Since our scholarship program began in February 2012, SCOPE has raised funding to provide full scholarship study for three exceptional students with TWDCC. We are proud of our students and thank all of our sponsors for their support of this vital TWDCC cornerstone program.
