SCOPEDance

(Santa Cruz Outreach Program & Enrichment)Dance

We believe that the arts, and specifically dance, provide an avenue for youth to experience discipline, confidence, and growth within themselves. Through SCOPEDance, our goal is to work with other cultural and artistic organizations that support at-risk and under represented youth in Santa Cruz county. Our outreach program will bring dance to as many children county-wide as possible, while also providing the opportunity to study the dance arts on full scholarship if they show interest, talent, and dedication.

Tannery World Dance & Cultural Center was founded on the principle that dance should be accessible to all. Through out SCOPEDance Scholarship Program, we have been able to provide full and partial scholarships to over a dozen students (per year) enrolled in our classes and camps.

Our project goal through our SCOPEDance program is to reach a broader number of children. Challenged by our location for parents and families without the means and ability to enroll their children in classes, our focus has moved towards finding ways to bring dance study directly to children where they are.

TWDCC has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Downtown Santa Cruz, launching a pilot program in the Fall of 2015. Over 30 students will participate in this FREE after school program that will host three forms of dance, for four months, in ballet, modern, hip hop, and African dance. Utilizing the environment the Boys and Girls Club provides with an on-site activities room, trusted and experienced administrative partners, and many children eager to dance and be active, we felt this was the perfect way to collaborate and expand our impact in the community.

Our program will expand in 2016 to provide these specific classes throughout the entire school year so that children will move into an ongoing, stable dance program at the Boys and Girls Club. The children will also be included in all of TWDCC’s Youth performance opportunities at the Tannery Arts Center, during Dancing Downtown, and other community performance events.

Families that have a need for partial or full assistance for tuition will need to fill out our SCOPE application. Depending on availability and funding, we will contact you within 2 weeks of submitting your application for approval or to be placed on our waitlist.
