BANDALOOP/ Vertical Dance Company Performs!

Come one, come all for the free, family friendly Ebb & Flow River Arts Celebration on June 5th & 6th. This Celebration is harnessing the power of the arts to enliven the RiverWalk and Tannery, inspire stewardship of the San Lorenzo River, and to build community relationships. The festivities kick off on First Friday with a downtown Scavenger Hunt and a community build of river-inspired kinetic artworks on Cooper Street from 5-8 PM. These artworks will be featured in the next day’s parade. At 9:15, meet at Abbot Square for a NightWalk on the River, featuring aerial dance by Saki, Danielle Williamson’s “Go As A River” film shown beneath Soquel Bridge, “Wonderful Wildlife of the San Lorenzo River” talk by Brendan Bane, and a lighting ceremony of Guardians of the River by Geoffrey Nelson.

On Saturday June 6th, join the Kinetic Art Parade along the Santa Cruz RiverWalk, starting at Kaiser Arena at noon. 10 works of temporary art will be unveiled along the RiverWalk during the parade, all of which reflect themes of conservation and the San Lorenzo River’s heritage. The parade ends at the Tannery Arts Center, where the Ebb & Flow River Arts Celebration kicks off at 1:30. A full day of music, dance, food, and fun for the whole family includes River Walking Tours, printmaking with Doug Ross, face painting and arts projects for all ages, and performances ranging from Marty O’Reily to vertical dancing off the Tannery buildings by the world-renowned BANDALOOP. A highlight of the day will be the unveiling of Kathleen Crocetti’s Ebb & Flow, a stunning permanent mosaic tile sculpture and seating area, created in partnership with Anna Oneglia and hundreds of community volunteers.
